Garden tools are of utmost importance to the gardeners(duh!) and finding the right tools is harder than you could have thought. There are many things that you have to take into account before spending dollars on some tool only to have it broken in just one week. You don’t wanna let your dollars go in vain. The tools should be worth all your money, they should be durable, comfortable to use and strong. Now how do you choose these gardening tools you ask?
Tips on choosing the right gardening tools.
Try it before you buy it
Choosing the right Gardening tools can be very tricky. But one thing you can do is to try it. Try holding the tool, how does it feel in your hand? How’s the grip? Does it feel comfortable? If not comfortable then you wouldn’t be able to work with it for very long.
Weight of the tool
The weight of the tool is vital. It should not be too heavy and not too light. If it feels heavy you will get tired easily. If it’s too light it won’t cut easily, making your work harder. The weight should be comfortable, something in between not too heavy, not too light. Find the balance and you have it.
Avoid cheap tools
Expensive doesn’t always mean it has good quality. But most often than not the cheap tools are easily breakable. They are made of cheap quality materials and hence they break real fast. You can tell when the tools are cheap they have a very different feel to it. The one who has dug using a cheap shovel knows what difference the right tools can make.
Check for the grip
If the grip is not perfect you wouldn’t be able to carry out the gardening tasks properly. Everyone has a different set of hands and grip is different for everyone. So the best thing to do is to hold it and try it for yourself. We wouldn’t recommend online shopping as you cannot try the tools before purchasing. However if you do so try and purchase from a good website which has easy returns.
Consider power tools
Power tools are good when you have to cut grass, trim hedges etc. The tools can be battery or mains powered. Also check if you are comfortable with the weight.
Choose the correct material
- Wood is the perfect material for the handles. It is strong and durable.
- Look for ash for longevity.
- While plastic is not the best material. It cannot absorb shock and breaks easily.
- Aluminium is lighter but not that strong so it’s best to avoid this metal.
- Hand forged steel, carbon steel and stainless steel are the best material for blades.
- Carbon Fiber is a lightweight and a very strong material perfect for handles but not blades.
The question you have to ask yourself before buying the tools is, do you want these tools to last or not? Based on that make your decision. This way you won’t regret your decision.
